PEMF Therapy
(Pulsed Electromagnetic Field)

PEMF at Very Well

Very Well spent months researching the most powerful and effective professional PEMF (pulsed electromagnetic field) solution available. This revolutionary wellness modality is uniquely both stimulating and soothing at once. The relaxed energy it can generate in the body can both energize your cells and support many of your physical and mental goals. It feels like nothing you’ve ever experienced.

Sessions are 30 or 60 minutes long and take place privately on our comfortable contoured bed. This is a full-body treatment, although our optional smaller pad can help focus and direct the PEMF’s energy to specific areas if desired.

Each session begins with a short conversation about your objectives, so we may either fine-tune the frequency to specifically support them or offer the “chicken soup” frequency of 7.8 hertz, which matches the Earth’s natural electromagnetic field and works to bring you into full balance.

PEMF is also a great complement to other modalities. If you wish to combine your PEMF session with acupuncture, red light therapy, or our other services, we recommend scheduling PEMF first.

PEMF is a holistic supplement that infuses the body with natural (magnetic) energy at the cellular level. The body may use that energy to:

  • Heal and regenerate itself

  • Enhance the natural recovery process

  • Assist with muscle fatigue and discomfort after exercise

  • Increase energy or support relaxation and sleep

  • Balance the body’s interconnected systems

If that sounds sufficiently nonspecific, it’s because the FDA has not approved specific claims about this device. However, the amount of research into PEMF for symptoms and conditions is staggering. Extrapolating from the above list can lead to treatments for all manner of pain, discomfort, and symptoms. If you are interested in specific relief, we advise you do a web search for “PEMF for [condition]” and make note of the results. One thing we can say is that PEMF at Very Well can be a game-changer for your wellness!

The History of PEMF and Magnetic Therapy

The principle of using of electromagnetic fields for wellness dates back to the 1800s when French-Russian engineer Georges Lakhovsky theorized that each cell had its own frequency, and that cells might also respond to frequencies imposed upon them from outside sources. But magnetic therapy for healing is far older than that and may stretch back thousands of years to the use of naturally magnetic rocks called lodestones to treat disease and ease symptoms. By the Middle Ages, physicians theorized that the life force that gave energy to our bodies and minds could be strengthened by magnets.

Building on the work of Lakhovsky, the infamous Nikola Tesla discovered the rotating magnetic field and invented an electrical coil that is still used in PEMF machines today. Throughout the 20th century, other scientists throughout the world began studying electromagnetism for health concerns. By the 1950s, it was discovered that damaged bone (and, subsequently, soft tissue) responded with enhanced repair in the presence of certain electromagnetic fields.

In the 1980s and 90s, manufactured PEMF devices became known across Europe for their effects on health and wellness. In the 21st century, aspects of PEMF have been confirmed as beneficial for specific conditions. Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), a form of PEMF, has found widespread use in the relief of certain mood disorders, such as medication-resistant depression. The work of many Nobel-winning scientists has confirmed many aspects of PEMF theory for wellness.

Who May Not Want to Use This Treatment

PEMF is a powerful modality, and as such, is not appropriate in all cases. Do not use PEMF if you have an implanted medical device (such as a cochlear hearing device, glucose monitor, pacemaker), an implanted magnetic device (including those deemed “unsafe for MRI”), if you are pregnant, if you are actively bleeding or hemorrhaging outside of normal menstruation, if you have blood clots and have not been cleared by a physician, if you have an organ transplant, or if you have injuries or concerns that have not been evaluated by a licensed healthcare provider.

Note: PEMF sessions may be purchased individually, and they are also included in both of our VERY WELL QoL memberships. The sessions are also discounted in our OPTIMAL LIVING COMMUNITY membership. Click here to compare all of our monthly memberships.
