Vibroacoustic Therapy Is Here!
A message from Dr. David Meredith, D.Ac.
The first time I tried vibroacoustic therapy, I thought it was going to be a disaster.
On instinct – what I later feared was poor instinct – I had ordered a sound bed from a startup company and then, when I was told it would be delayed until weeks or months after the reopening of Very Well, I tried to cancel it. Soon I received an email back from one of their managers: they could expedite it just for me.
I agreed. There was that instinct again.
Late last year, the vibroacoustic machine arrived at my house by FedEx in the middle of a rainstorm. The driver literally rolled it end over end through the gushing rivers on my street because it was too heavy for either of us to carry. Somehow we got the soaked mass of cardboard up the stairs of my porch into the living room, where it oozed buckets onto the hardwood.
When it was slightly drier, I tore it open, wrestled the heavy sound bed onto the crowded floor next to my PEMF bed and the other boxes awaiting the start of my new lease at Cross Keys, and set it up. Expediting it had probably not been a good idea after all. The app that controlled it was still a developer’s beta, requiring extra steps to download and start it up. Everything was finicky and took forever. By the time I got the whole thing set up and I laid down on it, I was more than ready for some nice vibroacoustic tranquility. I pressed play.
“What the f—?”
So much for my nice vibroacoustic tranquility! The whole house – probably the whole row of townhouses – shook like an erupting volcano. My tenant came running up from his basement apartment, demanding to know why there was a helicopter landing on the roof.
Oh, the vibration control was set on high.
This thing was powerful.
In the hubbub of getting the new Very Well open, I decided to focus on the services I knew were ready for prime time. The red light and PEMF beds and the salt room + infrared sauna became the stars of the show, while the vibroacoustic bed became… “coming soon.” The end of January, I had thought. Which became the end of February. Which became…

What it’s really like…
The second time I tried vibroacoustic therapy, I thought it was going to be amazing.
I tried a session called “Miracles | 528 Hz,” which I had picked at random for my test run. Unlike the first time, I had gotten the sound bed properly calibrated, although the beta software was still buggy. Still, I needed to try this out before I tried to offer it to clients.
“Miracles,” it turns out, is suggested for deep relaxation and connecting with your sense of purpose.
“Well,” I thought, “that will be nice.” When it started, I thought, “Hmm, it’s a little New-Agey.” And then… I’m not sure I thought much of anything for the next ten minutes. I got lost in the music and vibrations.
When I stood up again, I felt different, but I wasn’t sure I had words for how. My chest felt like it was still pleasantly vibrating from the session. My breath felt like it was more effortless and penetrating deeper into my body. Things I had seen many times before were striking me as new. My thoughts felt like they were coming from slightly outside my body, so my movements felt not quite in sync with them for a few minutes.
It was really indescribable.
There are dozens of programs to try, and I’ve only scratched the surface. I hope you’ll try some of these out, too, and let me know how you feel.
